Mohawk Press

Welcome to the Mohawk Press!

By

For the first time in several years, Mason City High School has a functioning, student-led newspaper. Several students interested in journalism took on the task of reviving the Mohawk Press and approached the administration and faculty members to put their plan into action. The goal of the Mohawk Press is to keep supporters of Mason City High School informed, promote our school in a positive manner, and address issues important to MCHS students, staff, and community members. We hope to make this paper as inclusive as possible, representing all members of the MCHS family.

As of now, we have a core staff of around a dozen students. Caleb Lillquist, Waroon Jalukar, and Sarah Dodd have stepped up as student editors. The rest of our staff consists of Justin Rowe, Jayden Smith, Carsen Johnson, Margaret Kruse, Daniel Stephenson, Hannah Brown, Marcus Plunkett, Maya Jalukar, Mia Godfrey, and Sierra Soto. Working on the Mohawk Press is open to any student who expresses interest and is willing to contribute.

The advisor for the group is Emily Bruns, the freshmen geography teacher at the high school. Ms. Bruns holds meetings for the Press in her room every Thursday at 7:30 a.m., assigns topics to be covered, and serves as chief editor, reviewing every article and issue before it is released to the public.

We hope to release editions once a month to start, with the goal of increasing that to a biweekly issue. Any student, staff, or faculty member who wishes to include information about an event, etc can send an email to Ms. Bruns.

We look forward to becoming an integral part of MCHS! Go Mohawks!

– Ms. Bruns (Advisor), MCHS
