Celebrating MCHS Moms

Mother’s Day this year was on Sunday, May 13th. At MCHS, there are a handful of teachers that fill a dual role of mom and parent, either having their children in their own classes or in the building. In honor of Mother’s Day, the Mohawk Press asked some of those mothers, along with their children, to share their experiences.

Janet Hansen is a math teacher at MCHS and her son, Joey, is a junior. Mrs. Hansen said “I enjoy to see Joey around the school”. Joey agreed, saying ”I enjoy seeing my mom around school.”

Mrs. Berding, a Spanish teachers at MCHS, has two kids at the high school. Her son, Luke, is a junior, and her daughter Gabriella is a freshman. Luke loves having his mom teach at MCHS. “It’s a lot of fun. I get to joke around with her a lot in class.” However, there are some challenges. “My mom definitely pushes me harder and has high expectations for me in her class. You can’t get away with not completing an assignment when your mom is your teacher.” For Mother’s Day, they spent their day visiting family and going out to eat lunch. They also worked on landscaping with flowers and other plants.

Mrs. Fredericks is the school nurse. She has one son who is a senior and his name is Noah Fredricks. Mrs. Frederick said ”I’m happy to be apart of his life even within school”. Noah said “I like to see her while I’m in school.” Noah can often be found popping into his mom’s office throughout the day.

Pictured below are Lisa Brock with her son, Sebastian, and Micki Fredericks with her son, Noah.. Happy Mother’s Day to every mother, especially those at MCHS!
