We’ve Got Spirit: MCHS Cheerleading

Here at MCHS we have a fantastic cheerleading program which starts the year off with sideline for football. Fall cheerleading started their season at the beginning of August and lasted through the end of October. Within these three months, cheerleaders of all squads, which consisted of the freshmen squad, sophomore squad, and varsity squad, all improved in many aspects, including jumps, stunts, dance, and overall school spirit. The girls always had smiles on their faces, whether it be during games or at the pep assembly.

Along with regular sideline cheer for football, these girls had the opportunity to participate in a competition squad that competes at three different competitions. The competition the MCHS Cheer Squad participating in were  the Iowa Spirit Spectacular in Iowa City, Triton Challenge in Fort Dodge, and the state competition held at the fairgrounds in Des Moines. After each competition, the team kept improving and ended the season with a sixth place finish at State. The competition team included: Seniors Bailey Badker and Piper Watson, Juniors Zoe Green, Victoria Rolon, Taylor Pruisman, Lucy Kim, Neeley Swann, MaKayla Krein, Haileigh Fancher, and Anastasia Reynolds, Sophomores Emily Lunning, Kennedie Scott, Halle Espinosa, Sirenity Beyer-Whaley, Emma Servantez, Gracie Servantez, Cami Despenas, Katelyn Deroos, and Shay Bantz, Freshmen Macy Dodge, Ashley Latham, Amanda McGee, and Makenna Van Syoc.

MCHS Cheerleading is coached by Kara Morel, with assistant coaches Jessica Hanson and Stacy Arthur. The cheerleaders would have a tough time without these three support systems and mentors always being there to help. We are all excited to see the girls cheering again during the basketball and wrestling seasons. Go Mohawks!
