Triple Crown: Danzers Bring Back Hardware

On Thursday, November 30 the Mason City High School Dance Team embarked on their journey to Des Moines for the 2018 State Dance/Drill Competition, and then woke up that Friday, December 1 at 5:30 in the morning to get ready for the day. They performed their Novelty routine in the Wells Fargo Arena at 10:34, which was an 8-year-old birthday party theme complete with a huge cake, a clown, magician, and unicorn. Then, they wowed with a West Coast Style Hip Hop routine in the Hyvee Hall at 3:08. Finally, they performed their Prop routine in Hyvee Hall at 6:20, which had a step workout theme. The dance team consists of seniors Sami Haberman, Jessalyn Frenz, Sarah Vaith, Kaylee Millard-Maulsby, Alana Wickering, Kallie Whitehill, juniors Matti Bartholomew, Lucy Kim, Erika Mariner, Sydney Sullivan, Taylor Pruisman, Zoe Green, Serena Trousdale, sophomores Gabby Jimenez, Sirenity Beyer-Whaley, Daisy Boehmer, freshmen Macy Dodge, Lizzie Quintero, and Linzey Smith.

According to Junior Sydney Sullivan, “There were times where it was really stressful, but we’re all together so often and we all huddle together and build each other before a performance so it made for a really fun experience.”  However, the dance team wasn’t only there just for fun. At the awards ceremony, they received the 3.0-3.5 GPA award, community service award, and three state titles for the novelty, hip-hop, and prop dances. This was their third consecutive year with a “triple crown.” Congratulations to the Danzers on yet another incredibly successful State Dance Championship!
