Swinging for Victory

By

Terrible weather is now a thing of the past for all of the spring sports, including boy’s tennis. Coached by Patrick Kruger, the boys have had a very successful season, with a 4-4 record, and a victory at Urbandale this past Tuesday. Leading the team are Brian VandenBerg and Nick Matthews.

Coach Kruger mentioned these two high schoolers when he discussed a highlight of the 2018 season so far. “Two time state double medalists (Brian VandenBerg & Nick Matthews) won the Ankeny Invitational last Friday.  Last season, the match ups at this tournament comprised 26% of last season’s state tournament.” Coach Kruger has been coaching tennis in Mason City for 14 years, and overall he has coached 18 seasons of tennis in his career.

The Mohawks Boys Tennis team has had 8 matches so far, and have one more normal season match at Fort Dodge on May 7, and then they are off to state and substate and fight for a state title. Go luck to the team as they finish out their season!
