Successful Season for Trapshooting

This year’s trapshooting team has been celebrating an already successful season. There are 16 people on Mason City’s Trapshooting Team, which is coached by Adam Brock, Jessie Dueshac, Dave and Lorie Wickman. While there are fewer students on the team than last year, Danika Brooks says this year’s team is very close-knit.

Like most other spring sports and activities, trapshooting as been battling the weather this spring. Several of their meets have been held in the rain. Blair Sutcliffe and Sebastian Brock, both freshman on the team, noted that their season has been “Good, other than weather.  Most of our meets have been in the rain, but my favorite part of the season is how we’ve been placing,” Brock stated.

This year’s team has been very successful thus far. The Red Squad has placed twice so far this season. The squad placed 4th at Osage and earned 1st place at their home meet. In addition to team success, Cole Baskerville, a MCHS senior, earned a 2nd place finish at Osage and took home the 1st place individual award at home.

For the students involved, trapshooting is one of their favorite activities at the High School. Sebastian said, “This is my first year, but I love trapshooting, I plan on doing this the rest of my highschool career.”  According to Freshman, Ava Ciavarelli says, “I didn’t think I would like it at first but now it’s really become one of my favorite activities.” Danika Brooks added, “Trapshooting gives an opportunity for students to be involved in something different. The team provides a home for students who might not have anything else to be involved.”

The trapshooting team has about another month of competition. This year’s State Meet will be held on June 8, 9, and 10th at the Cedar Falls Gun Club. Good luck to all the MCHS trapshooters!
