Successful Season for MCHS Tennis

Here at the high school there are many different spring sports to choose. One of those is tennis for both boys and girls. Both teams have been in season for about a month now and have played many meets so far. Also, both teams have been quite successful at their meets and will hopefully continue to do so through the end of the season.

Girl’s tennis is coached by Jim Cornick, the Juvenile Court Liaison at the high school. The girl’s team record so far this year is 5-3. The top six players on Varsity play a singles match. The top six are Sydney Rottinghaus, Bailey Vandusseldorp, Grace Henrich, Lauren Andrews, Peyton Carpenter, and Sydney Oliver. The following four, Riley Ginapp, Jaidyn Godfrey, Eden Lewerke, and Hannah Hill, play Varsity doubles. The rest of the team are on Junior Varsity. Both Varsity and JV have been successful, even though most of the team is made up of beginners. Although the team is made up of young players, they have played with great strategy and skill thus far.

Boy’s tennis is coached by Patrick Kruger, a biology teacher at the high school. The boy’s team is currently ranked ninth in the state, which Coach Kruger says is a great accomplishment. He also said the team needs to keep improving and not take the rank for granted. So far this season, the boys record is 5-0. Top ten for the boy’s team are, Josh VandenBerg, Brian VandenBerg, Nick Matthews, Josh Hansen, Nathan Matthews, Chris Andrews, Zach Stephenson, Andrew Zehr, Mike Andrews, and Carson Williams. Some hopes for this season are to qualify more guys for state and to move up the ranking to be one of the top 8 teams in the state.
