Mohawk Track and Field Success

This year’s track season for both boys and girls was a very successful one. Michael Rowe, who ran the one mile and the two mile and was a state qualifier, stated that the season was a little rough at the start. However as the season went on, there were many improvements from the team that led them towards success.

Serena Trousdale, another runner, also said that the beginning of the season was a little rough, especially with the weather early on. However, she said the team persevere, leading them into the success of the girl’s track season.

Jim Lee, the coach for the girl’s track team, stated that the season was “very satisfying”. He also stated that,” we had a lot of really good things happen. Senior Piper Watson capped off an amazing career with an 8th place showing in the high jump at the prestigious Drake Relays and a 12th place finish at the state meet, becoming Mason City’s first 4 time state qualifier in the high jump. Other student athletes that stood out were sophomore Grace Tobin who broke the school record in the shot put,  senior Emma Davison who qualified for the state meet for the 4th consecutive season, and sophomore Hannah Thomas who ended her season at the state meet along with her junior teammate Odeleine Daugherty.

Coach Lee stated that the girls were a pleasure to coach all year, and worked hard and did everything that was asked of them all season. Congratulations to all the Mohawk Track and Field athletes on another successful season.
