Mohawk Swimmers Make a Splash

Girls swimming did an amazing job this year. The girls worked very hard to end the regular season with a record of 6 and 2.  This season there were 25 girls out for the swim team. The team is coached by Steve Hugo. Coach Hugo has been coaching for 35 years. There are five seniors on the team this year, providing valuable leadership. The seniors on the team are Kennedy Dusheck, Thea Lunning, Mattie Krause, Morgan Lupkes, and Marissa Pope. While the swim team is mostly made up of MCHS Mohawks, there are swimmers from surrounding north Iowa schools as well. Top swimmers this season were Thea Lunning with the butterfly stroke, Madison Braun with the breaststroke, and Paige Braun with  sprints.

The Mohawk Girls Swim Team has had a phenomenal season. This is the team’s first winning season in ten years. Sophie Lunning, a sophomore, said that being so successful has made this season a memorable one. The Mohawk Swimmers are looking forward to success and regionals and hope to send swimmers to state this year. Three of the relay teams are in the top 32, so they are expected to compete at state. Two individuals are in the mix as well, so the Mohawks have a lot to look forward to as their season comes to an end. The regional meet will be held on October 27th, and the state meet will be held on November 2nd and 3rd. Good look to the Mohawk Swimmers as they conclude their season.
