MCHS Girls’ Track Off to a Great Start

The Mohawk Girls’ Track and Field team, coached by Jim Lee, is off to a great start this season. The 43 girls out for the team have been working hard for around a month getting ready for their upcoming meets. The team has a great attitude and work together to encourage each other to improve.

The team’s main goal is to practice hard and improve every day, always giving their best efforts. The coaches are focusing on helping the girls be performing at their highest level for competitions in May. Over the last four seasons, anywhere from seven to fourteen athletes have qualified for state, and they are hoping to keep the tradition going.

Jim Lee has been coaching for 23 years, 15 as assistant coach, and now eight as head coach. His favorite part of coaching is building relationships with the athletes and helping them on their way to their goals.

Hannah Thomas, sophomore, has high hopes for this season. She is really looking forward to the start of the outdoor season on Tuesday. This season, Hannah is competing in the long jump, the 400 hurdles, and the 400-meter run. While Hannah’s ultimate goal is to make it to state in the long jump, she is really looking forward to just competing and spending time with her teammates this season.

The girls have been working hard so far this season, and plan to continue throughout their outdoor meets. Their next meet is on March 27th at Waverly-Shell Rock. Catch them at home at the Mohawk Invitational on April 3rd.
