Girls’ Swimming Recap

For this article, I sat down with Mr. Hugo, the girl’s swim coach, and Madison Braun, a member of this season’s swim team. I asked Mr. Hugo about records, the best improved, and what to expect for next season. He said, “No records this year, it’s tough to break records. The best improved would be lots of girls improved in events other than their primary events which led to a more well-rounded team. What to expect next year is many underclassmen performed well at a level that they see that they could be a State Qualifier. We also like to get new people out that haven’t experienced high school swimming, and sometimes new people give us a surprise.”

I talked with Madison Braun, a freshman on the team, about what was different this year, the improvements made, her personal records, goals for next year, and what she looks forward to next year. “We lost a lot of seniors this year, which means we lost power in numbers. There were a few new freshmen and upperclassmen that had never swam,” agreeing with Hugo, “There was a lot of improvement throughout the season.” She then told me about her personal records and goals for the next season. “I did make a few personal records and my biggest PR’s were in the 100 Free, 100 Back, and 200 Free. Next year, my goal is to be injury free so I can swim breaststroke and hopefully make it to State. I also expect a lot of team spirit as we’re going to have some awesome seniors and some great improvements in the pool.”  The girls had a wonderful season and we’re all looking forward to next year. Go Mohawks!
