Fall Cheer 2018

By

The Mason City High School cheerleading program starts the year off with sideline for football. Fall cheerleading started their season at the beginning of August and lasts through the end of October. Within these three months, cheerleaders improve in many ways, including jumps, stunts, dance, and overall school spirit. The girls always have smiles on their faces, and are proud to represent the Mohawks.

The fall cheer program consists of both sideline cheerleading for football, and the competition team. The sideline teams of JV, which are freshmen and sophomores, and Varsity, the juniors and seniors, practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays in order to prepare for the football games that week. The cheerleaders attend a three day camp in August to learn stunting skills, new cheers, perfect motions, and learn the routine shown at the homecoming assembly. The competition team is another tryout process that each cheerleader has the opportunity to do. They practice on Mondays and Wednesdays each week. They also had a separate camp in August to get the basis of their routine learned. These girls work very hard in addition to the regular sideline team preparation to compete in multiple competitions, which ends with the State competition on November 3rd in Des Moines.

Cheerleading is coached by Janna Arndt; assistant coaches are Stacy Arthur and Rhiannon Lillquist. The cheerleaders are thankful for these three support systems as they are always there to help. We cannot wait to see these girls the rest of the football season, and good luck to the competition team. Go Mohawks!
