Cross Country Finishes Strong

The Mohawk Cross Country teams have almost crossed the finish line.. There were many highlights to this season. On the girls’ team, Hannah Thomas, a junior, broke the school 5K record. The previous school record was set at 20:09. This year Hannah broke that record when she ran a time of 20:08. Good job, Hannah!

“The kids on the team worked extremely hard, were very coachable, and always gave their best effort”, commented Mr. Ketelsen, who is the cross country coach along with Coach Katie Fistler. Mr. Ketelsen had lots of fun coaching both teams and is very proud of all their hard work.

Michael Rowe, a senior and Hannah Thomas, a junior both enjoyed cross country and are sad to see it ending for the year. “Being a part of cross country to me is something very special and is like a second family atmosphere.” Hannah always looks forward to cross country season. She gets an opportunity to spend time with friends and make memories.

State qualifications were on Thursday, October 18th, in Marshalltown. Two of our own, Michael and Hannah, both qualified for state. They did very well and tried their best as always. The state cross country meet will be held Saturday, October 27th, in Fort Dodge.

“There is no better feeling than making a goal, working hard at it for months, and then accomplishing it with the people you love. I’ve never talked to anyone who has regretted joining the team.” If you would like to join cross country next year make sure you sign up before next year’s season starts. The team would love to have you and, as Michael added, you won’t regret it. Good luck at state and Go Mohawks!
