Boys Swimming Concludes Successful Season

The Mohawk Boy’s Swim Team had their most successful state meet since 2009. Five swim team members, Jacob Adamski (Sr.), Mason Berg (Jr.), Derek Johnson (Jr.), Nick Litterer (So.) and accompanied by honorable senior, Kyle Younker, headed down to the Marshalltown YMCA and competed in multiple events. In each individual and relay event there are only 24 placements. Adamski, Berg, Johnson and Litterer all swam in the 200 Medley Relay and placed 15th and received four points, the first points scored at the State Swim Meet since 2009.

Three of the members swam in individual events. Derek Johnson swam the 100 breaststroke and took 16th place scoring one more point for Mason City. Nick Litterer swam the 100 backstroke and placed a respectable 17th, which does not receive any points. Jacob Adamski swam the 500 yard freestyle race. He received 22nd and therefore did not receive any points, but represented the Mohawks well! There were many other achievements at the end of the swim season. The Boy’s Swim Team finished the year with 30 swimmers. The last time the team had 30 or more swimmers was 1997.This year was Bryan Degabriele’s 20th year as Assistant Coach for the Boy’s Swim Team and was recognized for this achievement at the state meet.
