Boy’s Swim Team Prepares for Upcoming Season

Boy’s swimming is told to be a really enjoyable sport, according to the members of the team. Boys swimming is a sport that starts November 6th and ends February 10th. The head coach for boys swimming is Steve Hugo. Marten Van Ausdall is the assistant coach.

The first thing Coach Hugo does to improve the team is to do some conditioning for the first few weeks. Then after conditioning he starts to do drills and low rest intervals. These are very important for the swimmers to do so that they are fit and ready to give it their all.

One of Coach Hugo’s favorite things about swimming is the team camaraderie. Even though swimmers are scored as individuals, the team works together to support each other and give their best. One thing Hugo really doesn’t enjoy is the long trips from place to place. Some trips take two hours and fifteen minutes just to get there.

Junior swimmer Marcus Plunkett echoed Coach Hugo’s comments. “One of the best parts of swimming is how we all support each other.” He added “One of my major goals for this year is to improve my times throughout the season. That’s another thing I enjoy about swimming. You can measure your self-improvement as your times improve.”

There are 29 students on the boy’s swimming team this season. They are all ready to work hard and give it their all. The next home meet for the boy’s swim team will be held November 30th at 5:30 pm against Southeast Polk. Good luck on your upcoming season!
