Boys Soccer Kicks Off

The MCHS Boys Soccer season has just kicked off with practices. The first game is Thursday, March 29, against Charles City at 4:45 on the John Adams field. The team this year is coached by Bryan DeGabriele, a math teacher at MCHS. According to Coach DeGabriele, “There are about fifty players on the team, and there’s a good balance of seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshman. The younger players have been a great addition to the program, they bring a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. The returning players have done a good job of being leaders and setting good examples.”

The seniors on the team are Tyler Benitez, Mason Berg, Jorge Luis Castellan Sevilla, Mike Cooling, Evan Craw, Carte Despenas, Kevin Goepel, Christian Gossweiler, Derek Johnson, Thomas Kadera, Danny Kamm, Amel Lakic, Thomas Lucas, Jake Palmer, Brady Sheimo, Saeb Suhaib, Colton VanderPloeg, and Justin Zeigler. The Soccer Captains this year are Derek Johnson and Danny Kamm.

According to Sophomore Adam Dettmer, “We’re going to have a great season. Hopefully, full of victories, but if not, that’s okay as long as we’re all having fun.” Sophomore David Johnson elaborates, “I’ve but doing soccer since kindergarten, but I especially like soccer this year. Coach DeGabriele is really organized. I also really like the team aspect of soccer. I’m in cross country and swimming, but those are more about personal improvement. In soccer you can rely on your teammates and have a good time with all of your friends.” The Mohawk Boys Soccer Team has a lot to look forward to this year, and is sure to have a great season! Catch the team in their first home game next Thursday, March 29th.
