Boys’ Basketball Concludes Successful Season

“This year was a great season, one of the best in fifteen years,” says Boy’s Basketball head coach, Nicholas Trask. “The boys worked very hard and accomplished a lot.” This year’s Mohawk Boys’ Basketball team started off very strong and kept that movement alive well into the season, finishing the season with the first playoff win in a decade. They finished the season with a record of 12 wins and 11 losses.

Many of the team’s players were seniors, who Trask says were a “great group of guys who will be tough to replace,” even though he is looking forward to watching many of them compete in a collegiate sport. The biggest thing to work on for next season is to find a group of guys who will play together well. An AAU basketball team was created strictly for Mason City players so they can work on building relationships throughout the year until next season.

As far as individual players go, Kyle Lang had a very successful season. He led the team in average points per game, at 19.6 points, along with many different achievements and accomplishments. He was the Des Moines Register’s All State CIML player, INA second team All State, First team CIML and the Globe Gazette player of the year. Zach Hendrickson scored the second most points on average per game at 12.8 points per game and was the top rebounder, and the third most successful on the team was Mac Skogen averaging about 10 points per game. Overall, the team had one of their most successful seasons in the past fifteen years, along with many different accomplishments. Head Coach Trask is very enthusiastic and excited about the years to come.
