Vorba Concludes Career

Jed Vorba is retiring from the Mason City Community Schools after 22 years of teaching and coaching in the district. He has taught and coached in Iowa for 35 years altogether. As a coach, he coached basketball, football, track and middle school cross country. As a teacher, he’s taught Biology, Foundations of Science, Science 9 Makeup, P.E. and grades 6-8 Science classes.

Mr. Vorba’s future plans focus on his family. Recently, he lost his mother so after his retirement, he plans on spending more time with his father. In his hometown, his son is a coach, and he hopes to assist his son in coaching. After his daughter graduates, she plans on going to Chicago so he hopes to make trips up there to see her. His wife teaches at Garner-Hayfield and he also wants to substitute teach there with her.

His favorite memories were the relationships he made with everyone, including the students, the teachers and administrators. He also enjoyed being about to coach his son and daughter. “It’s been a great experience, and I’ve had the opportunity to teach with some great teachers and students.” Thank you, Mr. Vorba, from the Mohawks and good luck in the future!
