Teacher Feature: Mr. Phipps

By Eric Aldana and Sydney Sullivan

Mason City High School is excited to have Dan Phipps as a new vice principal this year. Mr. Phipps may be new to the school district but not to the job. Before arriving at MCHS, Phipps taught in the towns of Clinton and Muscatine, Iowa. He was also an administrator for six years. Although his career is very education based, Phipps also served in the military for 18 years. Phipps went to college at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. Then, he attended St. Ambrose University and Western Illinois.

Mr. Phipps’ main goals to accomplish this year is “to build a relationship with the students and the staff.” Phipps also plans to make MCHS a welcoming environment that would be safe and enjoyable for all students, staff, and anyone else who would come into the building. Last, but not least, he wants to help all students achieve academic success, and he is willing to do anything it takes to help students achieve that goal.

When Phipps is not fully focused on his primary goals, he is tending to his responsibility as vice principal here at the high school. Mr. Phipps deals with Sophomores and Juniors in regards to any problems they might have or if they are in need of specific guidance. He is always willing to help any student and is willing to have a good time with the students and staff. Not only does he help out students and staff, but he helps parents as well. He expressed, “It all depends on who walks through the door.” We are very happy to have Mr. Phipps here at MCHS, and hope he has an amazing first year!
