Students of the Future: Model UN Participates in State Conference

A group of students traveled to the state capitol for the annual Des Moines Model UN conference. Here, two days were dedicated to discuss political, science, social, and economic issues that arise within the world today. This years’ topics included the possibility of studying medicinal marijuana, the economic future of automation and economics, police brutality, and the the sovereignty of the South China Sea.

The first day of the conference, Tuesday, October 24th,  featured the outstanding delegates chosen at the NIAAC Model UN conference, which included Nathan Elsbernd,Tim Read, Caleb Lillquist, Danny Stephenson, Jayden Smith and Eden Lewerke. The outstanding delegates worked together to create a foundation for Wednesday’s discussion. Morgan Lupkes joined the delegates on Wednesday to discuss the issues with school delegations from around the state. Danny Stephenson and Jayden Smith tackled the medical marijuana issue. Tim Read, Eden Lewerke, Morgan Lupkes, and Nathan Elsbernd took on the automation and robotic issue and Caleb Lillquist participated in the police brutality debate. The delegates returned to MCHS with a better understanding of today’s prominent global issues.
