Seniors Say Farewell

The senior class at MCHS is wrapping up their time at Mason City Schools and preparing to move on to the next stage of their lives. For many, that means finalizing plans for education or a career after graduation. Over their four years at the high school, the class of 2018 have accomplished many things. They have won Homecoming decoration contests, carried teams through successful seasons, and found ways to enrich their lives and the lives of others through clubs and community outreach. There are a number of 4.0 students graduating this year, and several students receiving the Silver Cord in honor of community service.

In there last full week, the Press caught up with a few seniors to ask about their future plans, and have them share a special memory from MCHS.

Alana Wickering plans on attending NIACC next year to run Cross Country and begin a major in Elementary Education. She will continue this degree at UNI, where she hopes to study abroad in Australia. Her favorite memory from MCHS is joining the Cross Country team her senior year and becoming friends with her teammates. The sport was a very positive experience and helped shape her plans beyond high school.

Maddi McChesney is going to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She is majoring in Music Education. Her favorite memory from high school is the Concert Choir trip to New York City last year. She loved bonding with the choir and getting to experience a new place.

Noah Fredricks is headed to Waldorf University to pursue a Theater degree. One of his favorite high school memories is doing his final pacer and knowing he never has to do one again.

Amelia Ouverson plans to attend NIACC first and then Wartburg to obtain a degree in Music Education. Her favorite memory comes from this year’s AP Lit class and their feast. She loves the memory of Sarah Wendel attempting to cook bacon inside, and eventually having to plug in a griddle on the tennis courts so that the smoke alarms in Mr. Dykstra’s classroom did not go off.

The Press would like to wish all of these seniors, and the entire class of 2018, congratulations on their accomplishment and the best of luck in their future endeavors.
