Model UN Wins Case

On April 5th and 6th, Jayden Smith and Caleb Lillquist represented the Mason City High School Model UN for the International Court Of Justice at the University Of Northern Iowa. Smith and Lillquist were assigned the case of Liechtenstein V. Germany as the defense team representing Germany. The country of Liechtenstein was suing the country of Germany because of a stolen painting during World War 2 when the Czech Republic overtook Liechtenstein.

Even with the substantial amount of evidence against them, Smith and Lillquist were able to convince the jury to drop all of the charges against Germany. Smith and Lillquist have participated in the model International Court of Justice for three years. They also won their case last year in the case of the  Federation Of Russia Vs. the United States over a plane flying over unmarked territory in which they prosecuted Russia. Jayden and Caleb are juniors at MCHS. In the future, Jayden is interested in pursuing education to become a teacher and possibly law. Caleb is also interested in law and hopes to someday become a public defender in Chicago. Congratulations to the team on their continued success!
