Club Spotlight: Student Activist Group

The Student Activist Group is a new club that’s forming at MCHS in the near future. Its main purpose is to ensure a safe space for MCHS students to be able to voice their opinions, be active in their community, and ally with their peers. According to founding member, Sophia Willis, the group will be discussing issues within the community, but also within society as a whole. One goal would be improving the school itself, such as the addition of feminine napkin dispensers in the women’s’ restrooms, or creating a safe space within the school for LGBTQ+ youth.

Another goal of the SAG would be to help charities through fundraising and volunteering as a group. The SAG would also like to take part in activism-related events not affiliated with the school, such as marches, walkouts, and similar activities dealing with activism and community/nationwide involvement. These would most often not disrupt the school day. It’s founding members consist of Mia Godfrey, Margaret Kruse, Daniel Stephenson, Sophia Willis, and Marcus Butweiller. Please contact one of them if you are interested in joining.
