Editorial: A Time for Change

What will you work on to improve yourself for this upcoming new year of 2017? What goals are you willing to set and absolutely dominate this year to make a positive difference in your life and in others’ as well? I myself can definitely work on not overthinking, worrying less, and managing my time better for this new upcoming year to ensure my success in my personal life and in my studies.

When I asked the students and teachers of Mason City High School about their new goals, they had responded with great personal goals for themselves. The majority of the people that were interviewed all said they wanted to benefit more in physical activity and sports, focus on academic improvement, and to spend more time with family.

Some of the more unique ones from students and staff included to manage time better, to be more confident and sociable, to have a more positive outlook and life, decrease anxiety, lessen over thinking, and to get to know people more.

We, as a student body, must take it upon ourselves to make sure that we make everyday a New Year’s resolution. To clarify this more, it simply means that we must wake up with some type of purpose and mission to accomplish. This will contribute to the overall success of our long time goal we are trying to achieve. At the start of this new year, we have exactly 365 opportunities to not only level up ourselves, but to somehow transform the environment around us in a very clear  and decisive manner.

Many will set a New Year’s resolution, but they won’t follow through. So in order for us to make sure we follow through with our set goals, we must create a layout and ask ourselves some questions. We must ask ourselves “ Who is involved’, “ What do I want to Accomplish”, “ Where’s the location of the goal”, “ What would be the time frame to accomplish such goal?, and  “what are the requirements and constraints of such a goal?”. However, the most important question of all would be the “ why” of such a goal. What’s your purpose and reason of achieving such success, and how will it benefit my life in a better way than it is now?

For all of the student body ,teachers, and readers of the Mohawk Press, I have a message. The new year will not change us, but the will to change our habits, the act of setting goals and forcing ourselves to get out of our comfort zone more will. So what are you willing to do this year and the following to reach your full potential?
