Homecoming 2017: Mohawks Got Game

Hundreds of students lined up outside the high school, excitedly awaiting one of the most anticipated nights of the year. Twas the night of the Homecoming dance 2017, and with a hallway full of board game themed decorations, and a song selection by DJ Rich Lorence, it made for one spectacular night. It was easy to celebrate considering all of the successes and victory Mason City experienced in the week leading up to it. The Senior Girls defeated the Juniors at the annual Powderpuff Game, which was organized by Student Senate. All of the proceeds from ticket sales were donated to hurricane/disaster relief. The game was a great success and raised around $1,300 for this cause.

The Friday before the dance was full of activities for our students, such as a Clue themed pep assembly. The Homecoming king and queen were announced as Derek Johnson and Sami Haberman, as they earned the most votes from the student body. The day also featured a day of service, where students volunteered at several locations to improve the community, as well as an annual parade to Central Park with floats for nearly every activity. On the night of the big game, the Mohawks beat the East Waterloo Trojans by over twenty points. The marching band also found success as they performed their first full halftime show, making for amazing night. Along with the dance, Friday’s activities concluded another successful Homecoming week.
