The Marching Mohawks

There is no better way to spend a Friday night than being with the marching band while putting on a great show and building some relationships along the way. This year’s halftime show is “Salute to the Women of Pop.” Students had fun this year putting this show together due to its familiar tunes.

The relationships built during marching band are what makes it so special. “As the season progresses it is rewarding to watch the band improve through students working together. This also creates within every individual an ownership for the final product,” explains Mr. Kramer. This is due to the fact as Drum Major, Molly Lorence points out that, “everyone is involved. Everyone gets to play and have a role in the band.” When everyone is a part of the final product it is important that we care about the well-being of every person on the team as the team is only as strong as its weakest link. The relationships founded in band carry over to the normal school day and make the transition from middle school to high school easier for freshman. Band is the only class where freshman through seniors are all on the same team.

The last opportunity to see the Mason City High School Marching Mohawks is on Friday, October 12th, with pregame starting at 6:45 pm. Another important date is the Band Extravaganza  on Monday, October 22nd in the High School Gymnasium starting at 7:30 pm. Prior to the concert, there will be an all-you-can-eat waffle dinner running from 4:30 pm to 6:45 pm. Proceeds from the waffle dinner will go to the Instrumental Music Boosters for the maintenance of the instruments and uniforms. The Band Extravaganza is an opportunity to hear music from the marching band, concert band, jazz band, and the percussion ensemble. Mr. Kramer encourages everyone to come out to support the band as, “not many schools do a concert like this one, and I am proud of all of the hard work and growth that the students get to showcase at this concert.” Come out and support the band!
