State Solo and Ensemble Success

The annual State Solo and Ensemble Contest was held on Saturday, April 8th, at the Waterloo East High School. Students were able to sing solos, duets, or in groups, such as the Varsity Madrigal and Chamber Choirs, or the Concert Madrigal and Chamber Choirs. Others played percussion, brass, woodwinds, or string instruments as soloists or small groups. Students were given a ranking, ranging from one to four, and were surrounded by many talented students from many different schools.

Senior Danny Daugherty has been attending the contest for all four years of high school, performing with choirs or percussion solos. This year, he performed with Madrigal and Chamber Choirs. Chamber Choir brought home a perfect score. Daugherty enjoys, “sharing the experience with other students, getting to create art and perform it with other people. Supporting each other just brings us closer as students…whether our score is good or bad.” To other students hoping to perform at the contest, he advises that they, “don’t give up and don’t be afraid of what’s going to happen. If you’re interested in trying out for a solo or being part of a chor ensemble, I just encourage you to step out there and do it.”

Congratulations to all students who participated!
