Orchestra Winter Concert

On Monday, December 4th, the String Orchestra Winter Concert was held at the NIACC auditorium. The concert consisted of every orchestra grades 5th through 12th. Directed by Lauren Jensen, the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestras performed many songs displaying their skills, while showing improvements from years past. Using different techniques such as plucking and bowing, rhythm changes, and multiple parts, the younger orchestras performed tremendously, and we are excited to see how they will continue to improve over the course of the school year.

The high school orchestra, grades 9 through 12, was directed by Malcolm Burke. This is Burke’s second year directing the high school orchestra. Playing an opener, “Dance of the Tumblers”  from “The Snow Maiden,” the string orchestra was accompanied by woodwinds, horns, and percussion to form a full orchestra. This piece was then followed by two songs exclusively played by the string orchestra. The orchestra then closed with “Trepak” from “The Nutcracker,”  which was again performed by the full orchestra.

Catch the next performance of the high school orchestra, along with the band, at their winter showcase. This showcase is held on January 20th, located in the high school cafeteria. Hope to see you there!
