This last Tuesday, October 18, 2016 was a resoundingly successful concert for the Vocal Music Department. Conducted by Sarah Bouska, Joel Everist, and student teacher Caitlin Hanson, and accompanied by the talented pianist Rachel Everist, the concert consisted of the four individual choirs playing a wide selection of songs separately, as well as joining all together on stage for one spectacular finale. “I thought the concert went very well. I was proud of everyone’s hard work, especially because this year’s music was exceptionally difficult, and we had even less time than usual to practice it. It was really spectacular to hear four grades of students, and over a third of our entire school all singing together at the same time,” notes Mr. Everist, referencing the choir’s final performance, a rendition of Battle Hymn of The Republic, arranged by Peter Wilhousky.
“This is the biggest choir we’ve had in a long time, it was really remarkable that for Battle Hymn we had over 300 voices singing at the same time,” says pianist Mrs. Everist. “This music department is really special, I know when I leave I’ll take pieces of my experience here with me, and I can tell the way the program is run has been really successful here,” comments student teacher Mrs. Hansen. In other exciting news, the 9th Grade Mixed Chorus had the great honor of premiering Who Has Seen the Wind? A piece composed by Connor J. Koppin, a MCHS alumni, which the choir joyfully performed along many other spectacular pieces. The choir’s future concerts include:
