Concert Choir Preps for NYC Trip

On March 22, two charter buses will pull out of the Mason City High School parking lot, bound for New York City. The Concert Choir will be spending six days in New York for the Choirs of America Nationals, a noncompetitive adjudicated event that will end in a concert on Saturday, March 25. It will be conducted by composer Z. Randall Stroope, who will premier a piece during the performance. The choir will participate in an adjudicated performance for a panel of three musicians who will give them feedback for future performances, including Tesfa Wondemagegnehu, a famous composer and conductor who worked with the choir last year for their American Choral Directors Association performance. There will also be workshops with professional musicians from around the country.

The choir will have several opportunities sightseeing as well, including the 9/11 memorial and three Broadway shows, Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, and Miss Saigon. This incredible opportunity has been a Mohawk tradition for several years, and some details about trips from 1995 onwards are available at the choir’s website, http://www.mchschoir.com.
