Concert Choir Makes Trip to Chicago

Mason City High School Concert Choir recently had a very successful competition in Chicago. The choir left bright and early Friday morning March 23rd, stopping in Wartburg College for a clinic with Dr. Lee Nelson. After leaving Wartburg, the choir traveled on to Illinois. When they arrived in Chicago, they went to dinner and saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Drury Lane Theater. The next day, bright and early, the choir attended two clinics, led by Professor Karen Brunssen and Dr. Robert Sinclair.

Following the clinics, the choir participated in the World Strides National Music Festival Competition. While pending results, the choir made a stop at Medieval Times, a tournament show and dinner. After the show, the choir attended the awards ceremony. They were noted in receiving two Gold First places in 2A Chamber Choir (an auditioned group of 24) and in 2A Concert Choir. The choir then spent its last day at the Willis Skydeck in downtown Chicago and stopped for lunch at the Hard Rock Café. They concluded their trip by seeing The Blue Man Group and were lucky enough to get poncho sheets.

All in all, the choir had a fantastic time in Chicago. They grew thoroughly not only musically but as a family. A comment that resonated with the choir and especially during the trip was “don’t compete; create.” Throughout the trip. The choir showed everyone their potential to grow and create and worked extremely hard to find success. The Mason City Concert Choir would like to thank all who have guided them to achieve their success in Chicago.
