Break a Leg: MCHS Speech Prepares for Contest

The speech season is starting up this month at MCHS, with District Large Group Speech Contest in Forest City on January 20th. There is a lot of great groups coming together to perform for the school. The Readers Theater Production of The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) consists of Caleb Lillquist, Jayden Smith, Maddi McChesney, Marcus Buttweiler, Mia Godfrey, and Sarah Dodd. Caleb Lillquist and Jayden Smith are also on an Improvisation team with Danny Stephenson. We have a second Improv team of Maya Jalukar, Courtney Smith, and Erin Foss. There is also a Radio Broadcast, recorded by Beau LaPointe, Dakota Lee, Daniel Stephenson, and Maya Jalukar. Beau LaPointe is doing a Solo Mime as well. Madi Judkins, Kaylea Acker, and Lucas Bartholomew are performing Not Getting Married Today from Company for Musical Theater. The events are rounded out with an Ensemble Acting with Maddi McChesney and Mia Godfrey.

These events will be judged by one judge and given a score of I, II, III and the potential to move on to State Large Group. I and II move on to State in February. From State, there is the potential to move to All State at Iowa State University. In the spring, Individual Speech events will begin. The MCHS Speech team found success last year, with numerous events competing at the state level and a select few making it the All State. With luck, the team can find greater success this year. The Mohawk Press wishes all of the performers good luck in their upcoming competitions!
