Band Extravaganza Recap

This year’s Band Extravaganza was kicked off, as always, with a long line. Dad’s Belgian Waffles catering is a staple of the event, and is highly anticipated by parents and students alike. The waffle dinner ran from 4:30-6:45, and the concert began at 7:30 in the gymnasium. The concert represents a shift in seasons for the band, from marching band into more traditional band music and the separation of the group into Concert and Symphonic bands. They performed 3 mass concert pieces under the direction of Mr. Kramer and Mr. Bills. Performances from their percussion section, led by Mr. Anderson, and Jazz Band I, led by Mr. Bills, were also featured. They closed their concert with their marching set, ending the entire performance with a rousing rendition of Mason City Go. It is a last chance for the parents to see the entire marching set, and to get pictures of the students in uniform. It also is a chance to showcase the percussion section, which is a group unique to the marching season.

The orchestra also had a fall concert in the FEMA room that evening at 6:45. They partook in the feasting of Dad’s Belgian Waffles, and enjoyed a successful concert under Mr. Burke to get their year into full swing. The next opportunity to listen to the MCHS Orchestra is Monday, December 4th at NIACC. The Concert and Symphonic Bands will have their winter concert on December 10th in the FEMA Room.
